Incident: The Rock Creek Fire started on August 20, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. of unknown origin and is under investigation. Location: 5 miles south of Red Lodge, along U.S. Highway 212. Agency Jurisdiction: USDA Forest Service, Custer and Gallatin National Forest Cooperating Agencies: Red Lodge Fire Rescue, Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, Carbon County DES. Incident Management: Under unified command, Shawn Pearson’s Northern Rockies Type 2 Incident Management Team (IMT) with Red Lodge Fire Rescue. The Incident Command Post (ICP) is located at the Carbon County Fairgrounds in Red Lodge, MT. Current Size: 900 acres Containment: 10% Structures Threatened: 127 Status: The fire is burning in sage and timber in steep terrain. The fire is located 5 miles south of Red Lodge. There are private lands in the valley bottom with both private and commercial buildings. U.S. Highway 212 is open to all traffic with 35 mph speed limit through the fire area.
