The community of Red Lodge is open for business over the Labor Day weekend, as are local campgrounds on the Beartooth Ranger District. The Beartooth Highway (U.S. Hwy 212) is open between Red Lodge and the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone National Park, which includes access to Cooke City and Silver Gate. The air is clear of smoke, as fire activity has moderated over the past week. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in place on U.S. Forest Service lands on the Beartooth Ranger District, EXCLUDING the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area. Under these restrictions, stove fires, campfires and charcoal fires are allowed ONLY at developed or designated recreation sites or campgrounds in a agency provided metal fire ring. Fires within rock fire rings are NOT authorized. Fires fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels may be used anywhere on National Forest System lands during Stage 1 fire restrictions.
