Update, July 16, 2012 (Ash Creek Complex Wildfire)

As the fires within the Southeastern Montana Complex continue to cool down,suppression resources are declining in number as rehabilitation resourcesincrease. Engines and crews are beingdemobilized while the number of graders and excavators increases.Terry Zufelt, Operations Section Chief, flew over the area on Sunday. "Allthe fires look really cold," Zufelt said, "but there was asmoke on the Taylor Creek Fire with an engine working it."Both the Ash Creek and Taylor Creek fires will have task forces assigned todayto look for and extinguish hot spots.Firefighters very carefully applied 4500 gallons of water to a coal seam burning within theTaylor Creek Fire near a residence. Asof end of shift Sunday, the water seems to have knocked the heat out of thecoal seam.Fire crews were able to round up several horses and return them to a local landownerafter the fire had scattered them for more than a week.
